Large country house of early C17, early C18 and later C19. Ashlar and
coursed squared rubble stone with Collyweston slate roofs and various
stone stacks, some with grouped flues. 2 and 2½ storeys. Early C18 principal
front towards garden of ashlar with 2 storeys of 7 6/6 sash windows,
arranged 2 : 3 : 2, the central section projecting slightly and flanked
by a giant Tuscan pilaster either side. Quoins, plinth, 1st floor band,
entablature with plain frieze and panelled parapet. Windows have fine
'Gibbs' surrounds with bracketted stone sills. Central doorcase in similar
style with quintruple keystone and broken segmental pediment. Partly
glazed door in 2 leaves with overlight. On left side a simple 2 storey
front of sash windows. To right a later C19 wing of 2½ storeys with
Dutch gables and stone mullion windows. It projects forward a single
gable with same to front and right side. Further right a large 1 storey
extension. Behind this wing and facing right a Cl7 wing refaced in later
C19 with 3 Dutch gables. To rear C17 walling with high-plinth and stone
mullion windows and blocked doorway. Inside C18 front a contemporary
fielded panelled room to left. In central room a stone flagged floor
and refixed C18 oak staircase with balusters and part of handrail now
missing. In a bedroom some C17 and C18 panelling and in rear wing 2
C17 stone fireplaces with 4 centred heads.
