8/21 Swann tomb at Churchyard of
St. Peter

GV II

Shrine tomb. Dated 1872. Stone. Miniature canopied shrine with octagonal spirelet
surmounted by foliage finial and small cross. Square pier fills centre with
gable to each side. Free-standing red stone shafts to each corner with
finely-carved foliage capitals. Stands N of W end of church in middle of grave
plot which has stone edging. Inscriptions to Sarah, wife of Thomas Swann, died
1872, and Thomas Swann, died 1884. Identical to Wilson tomb at Churchyard of
St. Nicholas, Stretton (q.v.). Included for group value.
