6/42 The Old School and School House

GV II

2 houses, formerly the school and school house. 1862, extended 1872. Coursed
squared stone with stone, buff and blue brick dressings, and blue brick banding,
and Collyweston slate roof with stone and buff brick ridge and side stacks.
Principal gables have plain barge boards cusped at apex. An irregular gabled
composition of 1 and 1½ storeys. Front to Main Street has C20 double door in
1 storey extension on left, then tall triple lancet in centre gable and 2 3-light
casements with side stack in between to right. Various windows and doors and
a further triple lancet to rear with on right a 2 and a 3-light casement, door
with overlight between and 2 2-light dormers over. Included for group value
with Durant Farmhouse and barn. White's Leicestershire and Rutland, 1877.
