SK 9804-9904 KETTON HIGH STREET
15/59 (north-west side)

6.6.61 No 8
(Orchard House)

II

House, C18, of 2 parts: original house to left, of coursed rubble with ashlar
dressings and converted outbuilding to right, projecting slightly (and possibly of
earlier origin), of ironstone rubble with ashlar bands, all beneath one Collyweston
stone slate roof with ashlar ridge and end stacks. Change in wall plane disguised
by plain full length pilaster. Similar pilasters at either end (right hand one only
retains capital). Original house of 2 storeys, 3 window range, double fronted.
Central door now replaced by window, beneath lintel with keystone, flanked by two flanked by two
C19 rectangular bay windows beneath tented roofs. 1st floor has three 16-pane sash
windows with cills. Outbuilding, probably converted in C19, has two 2-light
casement windows with glazing bars beneath timber lintels to ground floor, and
3 similar windows to 1st floor. Small one-storey additions to left, right and
rear. Entrance to rear.
