Country house, now hotel, built in 1881 for Walter Marshall in picturesque
old english style. Coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings and
tile hanging to 1st floor. Plain tiled roof. Moulded stone ridge
stacks. Entrance front of 2 storeys with attics, assymetrical. To
the left a single storey range, then a projecting gable with 1st floor
oriel, jettied on brackets above the windows.Central range has central
climber framed dormer gable, jettied over canted bay window lighting
stairs. To right of this, a projecting ornate gabled porch, with date
and motto: "Fay ce que voudras". Various mullion and transom windows
and dormers. To the right, a massive stone stack projects, with crow-
stepped gable and twinned tall octagonal shafts. South front also
assymetrical, 2 2-storey embattled bay windows to the left, one with
mullion and transom windows and gables above. One bears a sundial.
Beyond these a further jettied gable. Elaborately decorated within,
with ornate fireplaces, plasterwork, inglenook corners etc. in very
eclectic manner.
