Description

MARKET BOSWORTH
SK4003 THE PARK

9/69 Walled Garden, Greenhouses
and Tower

GV II

Walled garden. Circa 1885. Brick wall with stone copings capped by ball
finials at intervals surrounding garden. Wrought iron gates in south wall
with ramified urns capping the flanking piers. In the north wall a large
clock tower rises above the site of the orangery: it is brick with stone
dressings, linked to the wall by curving balustrade. The tower rises for two
stages above the wall with blank recessed archway in the first stage, statue
in niche with shell motif above in architrave with broken pediment.
Balustraded parapet. The tower is flanked to the south by paired symmetrical
greenhouses, and behind it outside the garden area is a range of potting sheds
etc., in a Dutch style, with shaped gables and gauged brickheads to mullioned
and transomed windows. Bungalow in corner of garden is not of special
interest.
