Large medieval aisled barn. C14-C15. Timber-framed largely with C18-C19
brick infilling. Plain-tiled roof. Paired doors with chamfered lintel ashlar
surrounds in gable end. Three sets of wide double doors in long elevation. Seven
bays. High brick plinth inside, square pillars on high stone bases carry
spurs to the wall plate and are braced to a collar. From this, queen struts
rise to a higher collar. Each bay has secondary truss with wall post
supporting cambered truss rising to higher collar. Common rafters are carried
by four sets of pullins and there are wind braces in 1st, 3rd and 4th section of
the roof slope. No ridge piece. One complete partition to east, framed
in close-studded panels and with a tie beam as well as the collars.
Main roof is carried in a continuous sweep over the aisles, and at each gable,
is hipped with gablet.

Said "to have been the storehouse for the
Leicestershire portion of the produce belonging to Merevale Abbey", White's
Leicester, 1863.
