No 38 (Formerly listed
SK 5804 SE 3/44 5.1.50 as No 34)
Early C19 house with later C18 facade (in similar manner to No 18 Highcross
Street qv). Red brick. Two storeys. Five windows. Brick pilasters
at ends with fluted stucco capitals. Stucco bands and architrave to central
first floor windows which has Adam design frieze and small cornice on
brackets. Restored sashes with glazing bars, flat brick arches. Moulded
narrow triglyph frieze(triglyphs missing) to parapet of house. Central
six-panel door (two glazed) with wood doorcase with open pediment and
traceried fanlight. Interior had good simple early C18 staircase and
panelling in at least one room, but, now completely rebuilt behind facade
and incorporated into new building to left now No 38.
