Clock Tower
SK 5804 NE 1/246
1868 by Jospeh Goddard in Gothic style. Ashlar. Square on plan with
pointed-arch doorways at base with iron gates and piers at corners supporting
statutes, with canopies over, of Simon de Montfort, William Wiggeston,
Sir T. White and Alderman Newton all by Samuel Bardfield. Above the angles
of the tower are polished granite shafts with carved capitals. Spiral
mouldings round the tower indicating staircase inside. Clock face with
flanking pinnacles and spire.
