West Bridge

(Formerly listed under WEST BRIDGE STREET)

Opened 1891. A wide bridge with two channels, with stone abutments and cast iron arches with iron girders, not visible, under bridge. The arches are cast iron with four-centred arches with spandrels having trefoil and quatrefoil decoration, cornice above with Tudor roses. Heavy cast iron decorated railed parapet, and ashlar octagonal turrets at ends with ogee-shaped domes with crockets, finials, crenellation, and carved heads. The ashlar cutwater at centre rises to castellated refuge.

Spans the River Soar which is canalised at this section.
