House, formerly one of the cottage homes built by the Leicester Poor Law Union
in 1884. Architect I. Baradale. Brick with Welsh Slate roof. 3 irregular
bays with left hand gabled bay projecting forward. 2 storeys. Irregular
fenestration mixing 2, 3 and 4 light windows, mostly with mullions and
transoms. Left hand gabled wing has painted plaster and timber above eaves
level with wide overhanging eaves. Single storey porch built adjacent to this
wing and the central bay of the house. Brick with deep gauged brick arch and
hood mould above. Over the porch is a balcony with a brick parapet and carved
stone coping. To the left of the porch an inscribed plaque states that "these
cottage homes were built by the Leicester Board of Guardians A.D. 1884 E.B.
Pipes Chairman". It lists the 37 Vice-Chairmen, 7 of whom formed the Cottage
Homes Committee as well as L.B. Chamberlain, Clerk, A.P. Higgs,
Superintendent, and I. Baradale, Architect.
