6/41 Mill Cottage and
attached water pump
Watermill and mill house, now a house. Mid C19 with mid C20
additions. Brick with stone dressings and pantile roofs. Gables
with bargeboards, grouped central ridge stack with stalks set
diagonally. Single storey plus attics, 3 bays. East front has
central gabled porch with Tudor arched doorway and plank door,
and above it, blank-moulded panel. On the left side, a casement.
Beyond to left, a casement with hood mould. Both casements have
moulded stone reveals. Beyond, a lead pump in wooden case. To
right, a lean-to addition and to its right, wheel opening with
segmental head. Above it, a 2 light mullioned casement. Above,
a central gabled cross eaves dormer with a 2 light mullioned
casement. West side has an off-centre 3 light mullioned casement
flanked by single C20 buttresses. To left, round headed tail
race opening, flanked by single buttresses, and above it, a small
casement with moulded reveal and hood mould. Above, a central
cross eaves gabled dormer with a 2 light mullioned casement.
North gable has a projecting 3 light mullioned casement with
brick surround, flanked by single small square casements. Above,
a central mullioned casement. South gable has a 3 light
mullioned casement on each floor, that above with hooded
projecting surround. To right, a mid C20 gabled addition with
glazed door in return angle, and to south a 3 light casement.
Interior not inspected and no machinery visible. This building
was erected-as an Estate mill for Stapleford Park.
