7/167 Former West Lodge
at Edmondthorpe


Former lodge, now a house. 1867, probably designed by R. W.
Johnson. Tudor Revival style. Coursed and squared ironstone
with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. Coped gables and
dormers, 3 external lateral stacks. Rainwater heads inscribed
'18 AD 67'. 2 storeys, 2 bays. T-plan. South front has to left
3 bay lean-to porch on 3 octagonal iron columns, the openings
having cusped Gothic arched heads with traceried spandrels.
Beneath it, to the right, a pointed doorway with close boarded
door and decorative hinges, flanked to the left by a 2 light wood
mullioned casement. Above, a cross eaves dormer with a 2 light
mullioned casement. To the right, a gabled wing with a 2 storey
canted hipped bay window with on each floor a wood mullioned
paired sash flanked by single plain sashes. Above it, a trefoil
light. East side has a central mullioned paired sash with hood
mould and above, a dormer with a similar paired sash. West side
has a similar central paired sash with hood mould, and above it a
similar sash. Above it, a crested datestone inscribed 'WAP
1867'. Rear elevation has to left, a gabled wing with a
chamfered pointed doorway flanked to left by a paired mullioned
sash with hood mould. Above, a single sash with a hood mould.
In the return angle, above, a small casement. Outside, L-plan
coped yard wall with a coped gable to the privy. This building
was built as a Lodge to the Edmondthorpe Hall Estate.
