Farmhouse. Mid-late C19.
Limestone ashlar, slate roof, stone end stacks with squared, paired stone
flues.
Central staircase plan.
Central bay breaks forward and has 4-panel part-glazed door with chamfered
stone surround in porch with ridged stone hood, supported by pierced stone
brackets on red sandstone shafts with moulded bases and carved limestone
capitals.
1-light window above with pointed trefoiled head . Bay rises above eaves
and has stone-coped gable with kneelers, finial to apex and trefoil window
to gable.
Bay is flanked by tripartite sash windows to ground and 1st floors, those to
ground floor with basket-arched heads and stone divisions, those to 1st
floor have similar heads to outer windows but pointed arched head to central
sash. Hollow-chamfered stone eaves and stone-coped gables with kneelers.
Attached wall to right which has carriage arch to courtyard behind with
double-leaf doors and elliptical-arched stone head; stone-coped parapet
swept up above arch. Attached gabled single-storey outbuilding to far right
with lancet window and stone-coped gable with kneelers.
Interior not inspected.
Formerly part of Duke of Rutlands estate and similar to other important
estate farmhouses in villages.
