2/128 Animal Feed Mill at Halstead
House

GV II

Farmbuilding housing former animal feed mill. Circa 1870. Brick with
Welsh slate roof. 2 storeyed. Inside, 4 principal posts formerly
supporting a wind machine, and on the 1st floor, one set of peak stones
on a hurst frame driven by a pair of bevel gears, one with wooden teeth,
driven in turn by belts from horizontal shafting. Various other belt
wheels driving machinery which has been removed. Drive from sails
formerly onto bevel gears. The line shafting survives and there are
indications of the footstep bearing. Slot in wall for drive either from
external power source or to power for example a threshing machine outside,
Cart entrance in north gable at ground floor immediately beneath sack
hoist to stone floor above.
