GV II

House. Dated 1711. Red brick with rubble stone plinth and Welsh slate front,
Swithland slate rear, roofs with brick ridge and right end stacks. Brick
dentilled eaves. 3 storeys of 3 windows : 3-light, 2-light, 3-light : mostly
horizontal sliding sashes and all with small panes. On ground floor a central
6-panelled door with overlight (the glazing bars forming small rectangles)
and 1-light and 2-light to right. 3-light to left. On left end a 2 storey
extension with similar 3-light sash on left end over 2-light. Part-glazed
door to front. A further 2 storey extension on right end with similar 3-light
and projecting lean-to. 2/2 sash and 2-light casement over, 2 storey early
C19 wings and front project to rear. Sashes and mid C19 bays. Chamfered
beams inside. Tablet on front near eaves inscribed 'I.E.C. 1711' for John
and Elizabeth Clayton, though a blocked stone mullion window in cellar suggests
a possible rebuild on earlier foundations.
