SP 89 NW Stone House
House. C17, altered and extended C19/C20. Coursed rubble stone with quoins
and stone dressings and Collyweston slate roof with moulded stone ridge and
end stacks. Stone coped gables 1½ and 2 storeys of 4 stone mullion windows
with hood moulds, from left : 4-light, diamond lattice 2-light, upper part
of 5-light 2 storey canted bay and 4-light. The last three are in stone gabled
dormers with window ½ below eaves. The bay has hipped roof with small trefoil
window over. On ground floor, from left, 4-light, moulded stone doorway with
door and overlight, the 5-light mullion and transom 2 storey bay (diamond
lattice) and similar 5-light 1 storey bay (no diamond lattice) with hipped
roof. Slate sundial over door. On left end a pair of stone gate piers surmounted
by carved heraldic birds. 2 storey, mainly C19, wing to rear. Inside are
a fireplace with 4-centred arch and later C17 smaller stone fireplace set
within, and also restored arched-braced collar truss. V.C.H., Vol. V.
