3/9 The Stone House

House. Originally late C17, though altered. Random granite rubble on a rough
plinth, with new roof. Two storeyed, 3 unit plan with 1 bay to left of
original doorway which is now blocked. The windows are renewed casements but
between the two right hand bays are two much smaller windows at intermediate
heights, perhaps originally fire or stair windows. Present doorway is in
gable and above it two casement windows survive, one in the attic. Coped
gables. Former axial stack removed. In spite of external alterations
internal arrangement survives intact, with timber panelled partition walls,
2 Inglenook fireplaces, one on rear wall, one axially placed. C17 staircase
with moulded string and rail, and pierced wood balusters. Queen strut roof.
