Home Farmhouse

House. C18 but with earlier core, probably late C16 or early C17. Brick with
fragments of timber frame, Welsh slate roof. 2 storeyed, 2 unit plan with
centrally placed 6-panelled door and 3-light window to its left. This consists
of 2 lights of a cambered headed window, and 1 flat headed light, and immediately
to its right is a blocked single cambered headed light. Right-hand bay also
contains a 3-light casement, unrelated to 2 blocked cambered heads. Immediately
to right of doorway are 2 timber posts, set close together, 1 on a padstone,
1 storey high. 2 upper 3-light casement windows. Brick plinth and sill band.
Gable and axial stacks. 1 other vertical principal post on padstone visible
in rear wall. Single storeyed range adjoins to the left. It was formerly 2
storeyed, containing inglenook fireplace to former kitchen. Although in recent
tines it has always been part of the house, perhaps it was originally a separate
dwelling. It is brick with Welsh slate roof, and contains a single small light
to street front. Axial stack. Inside the main part of the house. Inglenook
in left-hand bay, heavy chamfered spine beam, and joists with ogivally moulded
chamfer stop.
