Architect, H E Kendall. 9 bay East range of 1830. 7 bay South range of l84l-6.
On site of the house of the Carre family. L-plan. Range of early Cl9 almshouses
in ashlar. Good 'Gothick" design of 2 storeys, 5 projecting porches with 4-centred
entrance arches and corner buttresses. 3 windows to each section with 2-light
mullion windows to sides and labels to centre windows. Centre of South range
has gable-ended chapel with crocketed pinnacles and traceried 'Perpendicular' pinnacles and tracerled 'Perpendicular'
window, over door in rectangular frame. Slate roofs and embattled parapet.
Garden in front with pump and sun-dial and a paved walk beside street. Stone
wall to right. Old gas lamp standard. _ Railings to wall have gone.
