TF 04 SE ASWARBY AND SWARBY ASWARBY PARK

5/1 The Kennels

II

Kennels. Mid C19. Built as part of Aswarby Park Estate for the Whichcote
family. Colourwashed brick, some ashlar dressings, slate roofs and single
red brick wall stack. Single range with central entrance passage flanked by
single fenced courts. Single storey 3 bay front, the central bay has an
open pediment supported on ashlar imposts. A central planked door is
flanked by single similar doors with plain overlights, impost blocks and
segmental arched heads. To the central gable is a plain top hung casement
flanked by narrow fixed lights, all with segmental arched heads. Above is a
small plaque bearing the Whichcote crest. The kennel is entered through an
archway with a pedimented ashlar lintel. To either side are slender wrought
iron screens with spear head finials and terminating in square brick piers
with coped ashlar tops.
