GV II

Former Medical Superintendents House, recently used as offices. 1902 by A. E. Gough. In the Italianate style. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and slate hipped roofs. 5 stone stacks. Flush ashlar quoins, chamfered plinth, ground and first floor cill bands, broad first floor band, and dentilated eaves. 2 storey. West front, 6 bay main block, with slightly projecting central 2 bays topped by a pediment. Round headed doorway and window to the right flanked by Ionic pilasters. To the right 2 plain sashes and to the left a single plain sash and an ashlar canted bay window with 3 plain sashes. Above 2 central plain sashes with moulded surrounds, either side 2 plain sashes. Beyond to left a lower 2 storey service wing, 3 bay with plain sashes. South
front, has a 2 storey stone canted bay window with 3 sashes, to the right a single plain sash and above 2 sashes. East front has irregular fenestration with a Venetian staircase window with ashlar surround. Built as part of St John's Hospital.
