9/109 The Old Rectory

G.V. II

Incorrectly shown as Rectory on OS map. Former rectory, now
house. C18, extended and substantialy altered 1851 by Edward
Browning, with minor C20 alterations. Squared coursed limestone
rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, Collyweston slate roof,
raised stone coped gables, single external wall and ridge ashlar
stacks, with embattled tops. Part parallel ranges. 2 storey, 3
bay front, the right hand bay is advanced and separately gabled,
the left hand end bay is recessed. Moulded string course. Off-
centre 6 panelled door with pointed overlight, in pointed moulded
surround with hood mould, set in projecting steeply gabled porch
with stepped angle buttresses and shield in square set in gable.
To right 2 three light plain sashes with moulded mullions and
transom and pierced cusped trefoil heads with blank shields. To
first floor 2 three light mullion windows, the central with gable
over, the one to right with cornice. To left a single light. The
rear range is earlier but much altered.
