Town hall and waiting room. 1835, possibly by Thomas Pilkington.
Coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and
dressings. Collyweston roof with raised stone coped ashlar gable
and cornice. Moulded ridge ashlar stack with cornice. 2 storey,
3 bay front with plinth and moulded string course, having off
centre 6 panelled double doors in double chamfered Tudor arched
doorway, with to left a pair of pointed leaded lights with
moulded hood and beyond a broad archway now containing a 4 light
latticed window. To first floor a central canted oriel with
quatrefoil panels to the base has single fixed pointed latticed
lights and embattled hipped ashlar roof, flanked by single fixed
pointed lights with moulded hoods. To the gable a small pierced
quatrelobe in ashlar surround. Interior has a stick baluster
stair with curved handrail, leading to the offices located over
the ground floor waiting room.
