Crown Mills

Mentioned as being the site of a mill in Domesday Book. Interior has datestone
(re-used) of 1716, but building mainly dates from mid and late Cl9. One of the
few remaining examples in the area of a large town mill. Retains the waterwheel,
but uses a Gilkes turbine as an auxiliary. Externally, a building of 3 and 4
storeys in red brick with Welsh slate and pantile roofs. Segmental- arched windows.
Crown Mills, stables and cottage form a group.
