Gatepier. Early C18, moved from far end of avenue after fire in
1769. Red brick, ashlar dressings. Square tall pier, with
moulded plinth, rolled ashlar angles, cornice, surmounted by
twisted and fluted urn with gadrooned lid. In the front panels a
central hollow niche with keystone, with single raised and
fielded ashlar panels above and beneath. On the sides are half
height pilasters with scrolled tops. Eresby Hall was destroyed
by fire in 1769. The manor of Eresby was held by the Willoughby
family, also of Grimsthorpe Castle, in the south of Lincolnshire.
