Description

TA 11 SW BROCKLESBY BROCKLESBY PARK

1/32 Grotto

G.V. II

Grotto, late C18, a long curved red brick barrel vaulted tunnel
with side chamber, which would originally perhaps have been lined
with wood and stone to form a natural looking cavern; there are
still wooden fixings for such a lining in the stonework. The
entrances are clad in randomly coursed limestone rubble and the
semicircular entrance arches are contrived to appear quite natural.
