Description

TF 18 SW HOLTON CUM BECKERING BECKERING

5/7 Abbey Farm House

II

Farmhouse. Late C17 with alterations of early C18, C19 and C20.
Red brick in Flemish bond with pantile roof having brick coped
gables and kneelers with gable stacks. Parallel ranges. 2 storey
with garrets having first floor band and dog tooth eaves course.
The front was originally of 5 bays and the blocked openings can
be seen. The 3 bay alterations date to C19. Central C20 half
glazed door with large hood, flanked by single margin light
sashes. To first floor are 3 similar windows. All windows have
segmental heads. The rear range is much altered but at the base
are large stones, perhaps indicating a remnant of an earlier
timber framed phase. Interior has moulded oak beam in front
range. Very fine dog leg stair with 3 turned and knopped
balusters per tread, moulded handrails and carved string. The
roof has largely been renewed in C19.
