(North Side)
Pode Hole Pumping Station
TF 22 SW 4/11

An early C19 red brick building with slate roof and some modern additions. 2
storeys. Rain-water-head with date 1825, removed from earlier position. Contains
in situ the original pumping engines by Boulton and Watt, which were put in when
it was built. These are outstandingly good examples of early steam engines,
and the workmanship of the frames shows the classical tradition in the moulding
of the iron cornice and Doric columns as supports. The engines are complete
except for the outside paddle-wheels. Modern engines have been included inside
the same building.
