Lamorbey Park
(formerly listed under
TQ 47 SE 4/8 25.8.54. Halfway Street)
Large mansion, now used as an Adult Education Centre. Said to have been built
circa 1750, but presumably recased circa 1840 in Elizabethan style. Three
storeys. Main east front has 2:1:3:1:2 window, the outer ones being blind
except on ground floor to right; the single windows are in projecting bays.
Brown brick, with painted stucco window surrounds and aprons, and quoins.
Moulded cornice above each floor. Panelled parapet; some panels with pierced
strapwork. The 2 projections surmounted by elaborate cresting, with narrow
twin sashes on all floors, and cartouches above ground floor. Glazing bars.
South front has 3 windows and a large bay on ground floor. Low walls enclosing
forecourt to east elevation.
