House, now part of school. Circa early C17 with C18 and C19 alterations. Timber
framed with C18 brick front; plain tiled roof hipped to front range and steeply
pitched to north west wing; eaves. House originally 'L' shaped, though now with
additional mid C19 wing to north-east. Formerly of lobby entry plan form, but
entrance hall driven through main stack at ground floor level in C19. 2 storeys
plus cellar and roof storey. C18 brick front of 3 windows wide. Square headed
sashed windows; ungauged heads; plate glass. Square headed entrance with
rectangular, plain fanlight. C19 lean to porch with trellis supports and slate
roof. Two square headed casemented dormers. Corner posts of timber frame and
wall plates visible inside, but structure largely covered. Mid C19 staircase.
Moulded early C17 door to upper floor with wrought iron hinges. North-west wing
retains original roof; original floor joists visible in cellar which also has
circa C18 timber storage compartments. A rare survival in the London area.
Later subsidiary school buildings to north, east and west, are not of special
interest.
