Includes No 24 Queen Victoria Street. Mid C19 stone building in Venetian gothic
style with differing elevations to Poultry and Queen Victoria Street; 5 storeys;
the elevation to Poultry of 3 major bays divided by piers extending the full height
of the facade; at the head of each pier a corbel carrying a colonette with carved
cap supporting the deeply corbelled crowning cornice; ground floor with modern
shopfronts with original foliated cornice forming the 1st floor cill; above this
the windows recessed between the piers and paired at each level; pointed arches
on columns with annulets at 1st and 3rd floors, segmental stilted arches at 2nd
floor and pointed arches within a square moulded frame at 4th floor. Enriched
cill bands breaking round piers at 2nd and 4th floors; balconies carried on deep
corbels to 3rd floor. The Queen Victoria Street elevation undivided by piers and
with the windows on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors grouped, 4 to each floor, within
a rectangular moulded frame above which a projecting moulded string with carved
stops form a cill to the top floor windows; otherwise detailed similarly to the
Poultry elevation with a deep corbelled cornice with massive moulded stops. Balcony
2 windows wide at centre of 3rd floor.
