1670-77 much altered. Courtyard building now cut open by Queen Victoria Street.
3 storeys plus basement and dormers. Patched red brick with later parapet to tiled
roof. Order of Ionic pilasters to centre of each wing with blocked entrance to
west. C19 steps, terrace and porch to court room at rear. Iron gates and screen,
out of scale with building, erected in 1956. West return plain. East return irregular
with polygonal record room in yellow brick, 1844, by R Abraham (?) at rear. Court
room in north range rises through 2 storeys with gallery to east and panelling
below this level. Finely carved decoration to throne against north wall with figures
etc, and doorcase to west. Railing to throne enclosure with turned balusters.
Simply moulded ceiling perhaps modern. Library or public office to east of hall
has original panelling with carved doorcase, chimney-piece etc and cupboards in
north wall. Staircase with twisted balusters in west range and another with turned
balusters east of public office. Record room has gallery with iron rail, decorated
ceiling etc.
