1930-2, by J Lomax Simpson, in collaboration with Burnet, Tait and Partners. Steel
frame construction, faced with Portland stone. "Stripped classical" style. 8 storeys.
Facade to Victoria Embankment follows the curve of the road. Rusticated ground floor
of main block stands forward, but curves in to central arched entrance, flanked by
2 smaller square-headed doorways and decorative lamp standards.
Free-standing unfluted Ionic columns run through 4th-6th floors. Metal-framed windows.
7th storey (at from above) appears as parapet now pierced by windows above strongly-marked cornice.
Entrances flanking main block support sculptural groups by Sir William Reid Dick.
