Founded 1575 by Wm Lombarde. Rebuilt 1819. Rows of 2 storeys. Cottages grouped
around 3 sides of rectangular lawn. Centre group with chapel on axis with stone
Ionic portico of 3 bays - flanking columns are paired. Horizontal entablature
with blocking course. Brick pediment above at wall face with moulded stone
cornice, clock in tympanum and surmounted by bell cupole with wind vane. 3
cottages each side of chapel, side rows 7 cottages each. Yellow stock brick
2 windows. Low pitched slate roof with eaves. Recessed windows with glazing
bars. Small hoods on shaped brackets to doorways. Gables of North end of side
rows have coat-of-arms in stone roundel in tympanum of pediment and below a round-heade
arched blank window in arched recess with stone band at springing and inscribed
tablet above. Wrought-iron entrance gate. To the South are C19 early-mid cottages
forming part of the group; also one pair of cottages at either end of south range.
