Small group of almshouses in shallow U-shape around grass court. 1884. Red
brick with freestone dressings. 1 storey and attic, irregular fenestration.
High pitched tiled roof with pierced ridge tiles. Attic windows are in large
flush gabled dormers, breaking eaves; with blank tracery in gable ends. Group
of conjoined hexagonal chimney shafts. 1 and 2-light attic windows, stone mullioned
and transomed. Ground floor windows 3-light with stone mullions and 4-centred
heads. Similar heads to doors, 2 in projecting central feature with traceried
parapet and central gable. Small window between. 2 other doors in projecting
porches. All projections have stepped diagonal buttresses.
Inscription in plaque under porch gable: "These almshouses were erected in memory of John Penn by his widow Ellen penn. AnoD MDCCCIXXXIV."
