Mid C19 house in 3 sections. Multicoloured stock brick with stucco dressings.
Left part 2 storeys and attic, 1 window. Slate mansard with dormer. Stucco
frieze, cornice and blocking course. Gauged brick window arches. Centre part
of 2 storeys, 1 window with parapet. Round arched 1st floor window has stuccoed
architrave with keystone and stuccoed spring string. Rusticated ground floor
has half glazed door under modern gabled hood. 3-storey right section under
gable projects slightly. Rusticated ground floor quoins, flat pilasters above
supporting open pediment. Segment healed windows, that on 1st floor with console
bracketed cornice and cresting, that on 2nd floor with moulded architrave. Long,
round arched ground floor casements have moulded architrave, keystone and spring
string; and open to small balcony with cast iron rail. LCC blue plaque "Charles
Gounod, 1818-1895 composer stayed here in 1870." Listed for the connection
with Gounod.
