1852, by S W Dawkes. Extensive range of 2 storey almshouses with projecting central
bays and doubled gabled wings at each end. Red brick with black diapering and stone
dressings. Central bay, flanked by 2 full-height octagonal corner towers, has
4-centred headed door on either side of which is a 3-light window, all linked by a
continuous drip mould. Five-light canted stone oriel over door, flanked by two
3-light windows with drip moulds. Decorative louvred opening in broad Dutch gable.
Recessed flanking bays divided into 3 units, each with central projecting coped gabled
porch and 3-light flanking windows with stone architraves and 4-centred headed arches.
Windows arranged 3-1-3 lights in upper storey, all under drip moulds. Crenellated
parapet with small central stone coped gables over each narrow bay. Central
projecting porch in each wing with Dutch gable, and a pair of stone oriels flanking
a single light central window in the first storey. Clustered octagonal stacks.
Slate roofs.
