Upper Norwood

1878-87, by J Pearson. Early English style. Red brick, with stone dressings.
Tall west front with grouped lancets, flanked by square turrets with pyramidal
stone roofs. Leanto round-arch narthex, 4-bay nave with double aisles, transepts,
straight-ended chancel and south chapel. Stock brick interior, with a brick and stone
vaulted roof, tall clerostorey with wall-passage and west gallery. Stone rood screen
and reredos with many statues. South transept was intended to carry a tower which
was never built. Restored after bomb damage by Carol and Partners, 1946-51.
