Circa 1870, formerly the Sailmaker's Almshouses. The buildings form 3 sides of a
courtyard with detached wings. 2 storey cottages with 1 window each. Slate roofs
with ornamental cresting. Yellow stock brick with stone dressings, red brick eaves
cornice and band at lst floor level. Square-headed, recessed sash windows with stone
heads and recessed brick aprons. lst floor gabled dormer windows with brick relieving
arches over head. Moulded brick chimneys. Each pair of houses share a wooden porch
with a hipped roof. Gauged flat brick arches to recessed doorways with panelled
doors. In centre of east side, gabled Gothic chapel with pointed traceried windaws
and stone 3 bay portico with pierced parapet over. Wooden bell turret with slated
roof at apex of gable. Ornamental cast iron rainwater heads.
The Drapers Almshouses and lodge form a group.
