Angel Cottages

TQ 59 SE 12/1 12.8.77.
Formerly the Old Angel. Early C15 timber framed hall-house with cross-wing
to north. The hall is one bay wide with a modern casement to ground floor
and a small gabled dormer above. Large brick stack on south wall with porch
to west over an old doorway with 4-centred head. Original crown-post rafter
roof with one moulded crown-post. There is clear evidence that the hall originally
continued further to the south. Two storey cross-wing possibly of slightly
later date than the hall, but with similar carpentry. Jettied front with
shallow bay window to ground floor with moulded brick base and old wooden
window frame. One single-hung sash to upper floor. North stack with 2 diagonal
brick flues. Modern additions at rear.
