7.5.54 Hurlingham House


Substantial house. 1760, with later alterations and additions. Now occupied by
the Hurlingham Club. North (entrance) front:- brown brick; slate roof to
parapet, 3 storeys, 3 windows centre, with 2-storey, 2-window wings and 2
storey blocks projecting towards the north on east and west sides around court-
yard. To corners domed porches with Doric coupled columns probably c1900.
South (river) front:- stone and painted stucco; 2 storeys, 9 windows wide,
Corinthian pilasters and central tetrastyle pedimented portico, containing a
recessed two-storey bow. Interior includes elliptical hall and principal
rooms with painted ceilings and panels, and ornamental plasterwork etc.
Additions, 19th and 20th Centuries to east.
