The Bay House
TQ 18 NW 3/6 1.9.80

Probably late C16 or early C17. Timber-frame. Two-storeys. Extensive C19
alterations and additions. The earlier parts consist of range facing south and
cross-wing to west projecting at rear, the angle between being filled with later
extensions. Symmetrical front is an addition but probably follows general arrange-
ments of original: stuccoed, it has wooden canted bays each side of projecting porch,
3 windows above (sashes flanking narrower casement). Quoins, band between floors,
cornice and parapet. Slate roof. Ridge stack with 4 flues roughly in line with
entrance lobby. Little timber framing is exposed internally. The roof of the
main front is of tie-beam, queen-strut and collar construction with butt purlins
between the principal rafters. Rear wing on left side, also late C16 or early C17,
has similar roof, but through purlins. Later extensions in angle.
