The Kiln

Basically early C17 house with external walls rebuilt in late C18 and some internal
alteration. Main front of 2-storeys, 3 bays. Red brick in Flemish bond with brick
dentil cornice and stone coped parapet. Gauged flat brick arches to sash windows
with glazing bars, many replaced; one or two segmental arched windows. Inserted
French door and window. A higher cross wing projects as half-octagon on left.
On right is a square corner bay projection with canted angles. Rear range parallel
to front. Tiled roofs. Chimneys of several shafts seemingly built at different
periods but some of early C17 or possibly even late C16 date. Inside one brick
fireplace with 4-central arch and several beams with simple stepped chamfer-stops;
also a good deal of C18 woodwork including cupboard door with gothick interlaced
