TQ 1868 NW (west side)

8A/10 Surrey County Hall

1892-93. C H Howell, architect with additions of 1930 and 1938 by E Vincent Harris
to the south and rear. The 1892 range is of 2 and 3 storeys with a tall clock tower
above the main entrance. Portland stone faced, slate roofs. Much carved decoration
around the doors and windows and 2 elaborate gables. The tower is crowned with an
open belfry and fluted ogee dome. The extensions to the south are more restrained
in style. Faced with matching stone, 3 storeys high with chanelled ground floors,
architraves and cornices to the 1st floor windows and Dutch gables. Returns to
south and west of 3 storeys with dormers. Arcades to ground floor. Post war
extensions to north are not of special interest.
