1911-1933 by Ralph Knott. Long symmetrical main west elevation to river. Five
storeys of Portland stone ashlar with a steep mansard roof with dark tiles and
2 tiers of dormers. Rusticated ground floor and end pavilions. Deep concave
central section in segmental curve of 19 bays, windows framed in giant Ionic
order. Attic stage above has round windows alternating with carved escutcheons.
Varying classical window treatments. Dramatic emphasis provided by tall niches,
at salient points, holding heroic size sculptured figures. Other elevations
similar, but eastern (entrance) front simpler. South front has members' entrance
though tall arch to high vaulted passage leading to inner courtyard.
