Mid C19 slightly Italianate pair, each 2 storeys, attic and basement in wide
main bay with 2-storey, set back narrower central entrance bay. Stock brick.
The main bay of No 40 has been rebuilt in facsimile. Stuccoed basement. Angle
pilasters with stuccoed capitals support wide open pedimented gable end with
lunette. Sash windows with margin lights in moulded architraves with bracketed
cills, console bracketed cornices on ground floor. Four-panel door, in stuccoed
central section, under pent hood on brackets, up 5 steps.
