Nos 4 and 6
TQ 3171 35/954

2.
Late C19 irregular pair in picturesque Art and Craft style. Stock brick with
red brick dressings. Most of first floor tile-hung with bands of plain and fancy
tiles. High pitched slated roofs and massive chimney walls. Gable end over projecting
east bay and hipped roof over narrower projecting bay near west end. Two storeys,
6 bays in all. Extreme irregularity and size difference of windows shows desire
for external expression of function. Small-paned casements. Red brick quoins
and bands. No 4 has tiled covered way, on wood supports, to door. No 6 has porch
with elliptical gauged brick entrance arch and outline pediment over, from which
a ramped wall sweeps up to the projecting tower bay. Original coach-house at
right; modern garage extension at left.
