the Virgin

Small village church. 12th century with additions of 1724. Original work of rubble-
stone: C18th plain brick. Pitched slated roofs to eaves. C12 Aisleless nave chancel
walls to sills, of C12. South porch and north west Lethieullier chapel added 1724,
when chancel also rebuilt. Nave windows to south and west roundheaded, with later
stucco surrounds. Visible inside the church a narrow round headed window with deep
reveal high in north wall towards west. Original tall, narrow round headed doorways
to north and south, now sheltered by south porch and the north chapel. Oculi to
north and south of north chapel. Louvred weatherboarded bellcote over west gable
of nave. Simple eastern pediment and plain round headed windows to chancel. Arched
plaster ceiling to nave and chancel. Chapel contains monument to Lethieullier family
(d.1737 and later). GoodC16, C17 andC18 monuments within. 1982 - Restored recently.
