Magdalene

12th century church comprising simple west tower, nave and apsidel-ended chancel.
No clerestory. Walls of coursed rubblestone with some flint and tiled roofs. Tower
early 16th century. Apse and chancel roofs lower than that of nave. Two flat
pilaster buttresses. Three round headed single-light windows to apse. Apse separated
from chancel by 12th century round arch. Chancel north wall has 12th century round-
arched window, and interlinked arching inside (mostly missing to south). To south
side a C16 to C18th 3-light window. No arch between nave and chancel. Restored
C12 doorway to south wall of nave, with two double light 'Y' traceried windows (1844-
5) two similar windows to north wall, round headed lancet. Low buttressed brick
tower, to west end, 3 stages, undivided externally; battlemented west porch, C12
doorway within. Good fittings include C13 piscina, C13 wall painting to apse, C17
font, and good C17-C18 monuments.
